The LPI® Lightning Strike Recorder (LSR2) is a lightning strike recording device designed to record the number of lightning strikes received by a lightning arrester and conducted through a down conductor. This device operates inductively by detecting lightning strike currents through a sensor loop located on the underside of its housing.
The LSR2 is equipped with a 7-digit mechanical display capable of recording up to 9,999,999 strikes without the need for reset. The device is housed in an IP67-rated polycarbonate enclosure, designed to withstand outdoor conditions and extreme weather. Installation is flexible, allowing it to be mounted along the down conductor path using UV-resistant plastic cable ties and is removable.

The LPI® Lightning Strike Recorder Tester (LSR1-TESTER MKII) is a portable device designed to test the functionality of the LPI Lightning Strike Recorder. By generating a high simulation current, this device allows technicians to ensure that the LSR2 is functioning properly. The device is lightweight, easy to carry, and uses 8 rechargeable AA NiMH batteries.
How to Use the Tester:
Connect the pulse cable in parallel to the down conductor.
Wrap the cable around the LSR as shown in the diagram.
Press the red button and wait until you hear a “clunk” sound within 10-15 seconds – this indicates that the pulse has been sent and the recorder will increment the count.
